Attorney/client privilege. Which is kind of important.

When I first read about it I wasn’t happy. It is Project Veritas after all. But these are private communications between them and their lawyers.

The law has to protect everybody or it protects nobody.

The law protects people from a court ordering the release of this info by the lawyer and from the info being used in a court case. The law does not prevent NYT or anyone else from publishing said info unless it can be shown that NYT obtained it illegally. It’s on veritas and their lawyers to keep their shit secret; if it gets leaked they can’t cry privilege. This was an absurd ruling by the judge.
