As I first mentioned on this thread, the nuts over at Beck’s site was on this conspiracy angle from the top. For example, note the time stamp on this comment at The Blaze:

Very convenient that this happened right before the July 25th vote on the UN small arms treaty. I say watch for more of this kind of thing to happen until next Wednesday. Big brother might be trying to swing a vote… And there is your crazy (but maybe not) conspiracy theory for the day.

These internet comments may not be a large share of the American populace, but they are a non-trivial minority. There is an entire culture of gun-fetish hate-mongers in this country, highly conspiratorial in mind and very small of morality.

And the GOP actively courts their votes.
