It gives you a real clear idea how big the world is. I can still marvel that I can eat breakfast in Chicago and a half-day later eat dinner in Hong Kong. It’s just the intervening hours that are a pain in the neck.
I haven’t done China yet. The husband has, including a number of less common tourist stops (he did the overland route to Tibet back in the early 90s). Not sure when we’ll get there, honestly. I think the next targets are Scotland, Ireland, and northern France.
But after Ireland I am swearing off international travel for a bit. At least at Dublin is one of the places where there is pre-clearance for US customs. Not having to go through customs at SFO: priceless.
