I’m not at all surprised he was trying to move up to the national level. A lot of the bills he sponsored (or co-sponsored) at the state level were typical wingnut things, so it follows that he’d want to step up to the next level. FWIW, a lot of the bills he was involved with died without going anywhere, but all that was back before the GOP went full metal wingnut—i.e. he was basically a Tea Bagger before it was considered “cool”.
