When ever these mass shootings happen, I always hear “he was crazy.” This is especially true when the shooter is a white guy. It’s a trick they use to separate themselves from the shooter, and to relieve themselves of any liability. Because you can’t do anything about a crazy person. If you can dismiss him as crazy, rather than as a rational actor who decided he wanted to kill people, then you don’t have to consider that there are rational people who may decide they want to kill people with easily available guns. If you don’t have to consider that, if it’s either responsible gun owner or crazy person, then you don’t really need to consider gun control beyond background checks for mental illness.

Nailed it. That’s exactly why. But it’s not even gun nuts. I think people can’t accept that a person of a sound mind could do something like that. But at the same time, I see these same people want to execute people.
