This is a new one to me. So, when the “restore the mammoth” project goes forward, the researchers are going to need to make sure they add that functionality back in. Insert the CallOlfaction() routines, or some such.

They will probably be leaning on their closest living relatives to fill in the gaps or damages to their genomes.
