re: #212 b_sharp
When I was a kid, both sets of grandparents had gardens. I used to go pull carrots and peas and eat them without washing off the dirt. Cucumbers I peeled, added salt and munched away. Even today, one of my favourite lunches is a toasted tomato sandwich.
My dad always had a garden in the backyard—must’ve gotten it from his mom as she was an amazing gardener—he used to do the same: Go out to the garden with a salt shaker & pocket knife, pick veggies straight off the plant, and eat them on the spot.
I miss my dad.
