I find the “piracy does no harm” argument to be weak. I have a hard time thinking the following would be true.

Piracy results in no lost sales at all. It increases sales in movies, music, games, and software. Right across the board. And for those reasons we can ignore the pirates as clever salesmen? Stop protecting the intellectual property rights? Stop protecting patents too? The “nothing material is stolen” argument applies there too.

If we conclude there is scapegoating or exaggerations we get to just dismiss the whole complaint?

At what point are we really just giving up on protecting legitimate rights?

Tell ya what, I’m not buying that theory or any pirated music or movies. Given the chance I’d drop a dime on the pirated material sellers every time. If I had a child, I’d teach him stealing is wrong. Materially or otherwise.
