I still (want to) believe that Jar Jar was supposed to be the ultimate big bad in the prequel trilogy. Would have made the prequels so much better.

I am definitely in the “Jar Jar was supposed to be a Sith Lord and Palpatine/Darth Sidious’ master” camp; it not only makes the prequel trilogy much more interesting, it actually explains some of the loose ends and bodges made to cover Lucas’ change in plans when the idea didn’t test well with audiences and he decided to turn Jar Jar into (tone-deaf stereotypical) comic relief.
