re: #215 wheat-dogg
Breyer’s was my favorite ice cream growing up. My parents liked the “all natural” aspect and I liked the taste and mouth-feel (though I didn’t know about mouth-feel back then). Then Breyer’s got bought by a big conglomerate, which also bought Ben & Jerry’s. Big conglomerate decided it should only offer one premium ice cream, so that breyer’s and B&J would not compete against each other. So, Breyer’s went cheap: no more all natural, no more simple ingredients — just more fillers, emulsifiers, and what not.
Now Breyer’s is really no different from any store brand ice cream, but I reckon people buy it because like me they grew up with fond memories. Brand loyalty.
Breyers was a Philly institution. On just about every other candy store was their signs.
They killed it. The old factory still stands. It was the best ice cream.
Don’t even get me started with Tastykake.
