That is a pretty cynical view that ignores the possibility of true belief on the part of religious leaders as well as followers. It also ignores the great amount of good done in the world in the name of a higher power.

True belief simply means following the teachings of Christ. Love your neighbor, follow the golden rule, don’t be an asshole. It doesn’t mean use scripture as a legal argument against gay marriage, abortion, or capital gains taxes.
