A standard RW talking point is that “environmental whackos” want us to go back to living in lean-tos and wiping our asses with leaves.

The point is that environmental progress is also a challenge to develop newer and more progressive energy-saving and energy-producing technologies and to abandon the outdated 19th and 20th century fossil fuels.

And of course, these are the yahoos who bitch about not being able to find inefficient bulbs and think that electric cars and various sorts of hybrids are stupid because they might not work for their particular lifestyle, rather than observing how nice it is that we have such variety available now. It’s as if the existence of any alternative technology to the most wasteful is an affront to them. My wingnut cousin is a big fan of Big Coal, always posting things about Obama’s ‘War On Coal’, as if Natural Gas’s war on coal isn’t what’s killing the coal market.
