citing ‘flare ups’ is a way to say see, we’re not doing too badly
no worse than anyone else
(we are - worse than most, and way worse than we could have been)

besides why should the experiences of other countries be the standard we should meet?
what happened to american exceptionalism and all that?

Trump can go eff himself with his gleeful citations of other countries and their “flare ups.” Again, the Trump mindset is that he can’t win unless someone else loses.
