A little over a year ago, I was in a rental car outside Fort Worth and suddenly noticed a tire dead ahead of me in my lane. (And the disabled truck off to the side)

Tried to straddle it and more or less did, but the clearance on the rental car wasn’t very high and it ripped the shit out of the heat shield under the front of the car.

The work colleague I was with returned the car and the rental company called me up to say they’d seen the damage… but then they bungled the paperwork at their end somehow and in the end I never got charged.

Dumb luck?

It’s nice when things fall into place somehow and you just squeak by.
