You were probably taught the food groups and the FDA-approved plan.

Were you taught to examine ingredients? Question them? Were you taught about additives like HFCS and their potential effects? Did you learn about the use of hydrogenation and how it changes the basic nature of how food reacts in your digestive and nervous systems? Did you learn about the extent to which livestock animals are exposed to excess levels of antibiotics and hormones, and how those issues affect development and human immune systems?

It’s far more than just knowing what food groups are approved. I work in the industry and have to manage these details daily, and I’m telling you that whatever is getting taught is NOT getting through in a meaningful way — or it hasn’t been.
