Both extremes would send a terrible message to the community and possibly result in civil unrest. At this point, even a “compromise” verdict (manslaughter with a relatively short sentence) isn’t going to satisfy many people. Whatever happens you can be assured the publicity surrounding the case will continue.

Exactly, which is why I’m not worried about the social ramifications of this trial. Way I see it, nobody’s gonna be happy by how it shakes out.
