re: #211 klys (maker of Silmarils)

So how do you address that mindset while producing a candidate that is acceptable to the majority of American voters, some of whom are not the loony left?

How do you deal with someone who looks at a nuanced, real human being, that does a lot of good (not all, but a lot!) and dismisses them as a corporate shill? The world is not fucking black and white. REALITY IS NOT FUCKING BLACK AND WHITE. But people like that are completely unwilling to compromise and instead look down from their high horses like they’ve magically held on to some mystical superior moral ground because they didn’t sully their hands with voting for someone less principled than them.

There is no magical pure candidate who is going to win these people, and as we’ve seen over the past several weeks (view the fallout over the whole Unity tour bit), catering to those who are setting the purity bar higher than is remotely possible does a lot to piss off the base that actually shows up to vote.

And that’s even before we get into the giant racial blind spot that these people have.

It’s like being lectured again about how we have to understand the poor Trump voters, except these are the folks who were too pure to vote for Hillary so instead we got Trump.

Any idiot that didn’t vote for Clinton in the 2016 general election because of purity concerns needs to repent, thoroughly.

That said, the Democratic party has not really opposed rising wealth and income inequality in the US for a long time, and IMO this definitely needs to be addressed. Yes, Obamacare is very helpful in reducing the number of medical bankruptcies, but that worthy act of providing some basic civilization doesn’t really count as opposing the plutocracy itself.
