This makes no sense. Why was Lee an “honorable man”? Why was he a “great man”?

Because we have too long read Jubal Early and The Lost Cause’s view of him. Most people who praise Lee praise a myth. Every state in the Union sent volunteers to protect her. Lee’s Virginia sent the most volunteers after Tennessee of any CSA state. Where are their memorials? Where are the salutes to men like Sam Houston, Winfield Scott, and George Thomas who chose country over state?
