Kabuki theater designed to give the GOP cover in claiming that no matter what Dr. Ford says, they’ll confirm anyways, because there’s just enough doubt out there that we can say she was assaulted, but not by whom.

It’s all bulkshit from the GOP. They want Kavanaugh on the bench to fulfill his role as tipping the court to the GOP for decades to come. That’s all that matters. Even those so-called principled GOPers who think that Kavanaugh is compromised are going along with it - including McConnell. Why? Because if Kavanaugh withdraws now, there’s no time before the midterms to ram through another nominee and then we’re into the lame duck when it’s quite possible that Democrats retake the Senate and gain a majority in the House.

That’s another backdrop to the fact that Trump keeps throwing a shutdown threat out there, which would only help the Democrats.
