There a handful of things in STV that can be salvaged out of that mess and the rest flushed.

The existence of a failed Peace Planet in the Neutral Zone that has turned into Terra 11 from Spacehunter, or Pandora from Borderlands.

A renegade Vulcan leading a cult rejecting logic-only in favor of emotions. (But not him being a blood relative of Spock.)

The line “What does God need with a Starship?” is worthy of reuse somewhere in the franchise.

All these ideas could be reused or canonized in Trek lore somehow. The rest…. CRAP.

I once put together a homemade edit of STV that cut out a lot of the Yosemite stuff, Uhura’s fandance, the turboshaft bit , basically any scene that made the leads look too much like buffoons, but kept the main plot and action. I only ended up trimming about 15 minutes of footage to get a 90 minute version that I didn’t have to cringe through too much while watching.
