I doubt that. China’s response to the pandemic has been pretty draconian — if you test positive, they move you into their newly built “quarantine palaces,” and there you stay, alone, tested twice a day until your test is negative. I don’t know exactly what kind of contact tracing they do, but I expect it’s just as thorough.

In addition, reports from crematoriums in the provincial capital of Wuhan running at full capacity for many weeks as well as urn sales indicated that as many as 46,800 had died by late March of last year.

“On Wednesday, RFA published government figures released by the Hubei Civil Affairs Department showing that 150,000 names had vanished from the list of pension recipients over the first three months of 2020, when the outbreak in Wuhan was at its peak. These subsidies are paid to elderly residents in Hubei over the age of 80 who are in need of financial assistance.”
