can you imagine if it said he was Caucasian or white? Think about how they talk about race and then how it would change.

I’m not a geneticist, but wouldn’t it be possible for a person to be born to a white mother and black father and have white skin?

I dont know about Hawaii, but in Ohio in 1957 you only had three choices for “race”; white, negro or other on birth certificates. And I can pretty much guarantee there would have been a huge problem with that birth if it had occurred in some other state than Hawaii or maybe California. There were still big issues with segregation and separate black/white hospitals in most of the country at that time.
