I find Reich to be, somehow at the same time, a bit hyperbolic and shallow.

At least in some of his generalizations.

Let’s look at this contextually: Until the Emancipation Proclamation a sizable chunk of the population were not even considered equal as people, and it took another 100 years until 1965 for the Constitution and laws to enforce the real meaning of the proclamation.

Women didn’t vote nationally until 1920.

I think it is too easy to paint the past as some kind of utopia. And, I think Reich is falling into that trap.
