re: #210 Eclectic Cyborg

Clearly this could have been avoided had the whole family been armed to the teeth.

Also, speaking of gun stupidity, I came across this from a “2nd Amendment enthusiast” on FB last week:

[Embedded content]

Never mind that no one bought the worthless things or that our founding fathers would have even heard of it. The 2nd amendment was designed to require all white male property owners (ie voters) to own a military class longarm because the whole militia fantasy was that they could replace the standing army that they feared after the English Civil Wars (aka “New Model Army”) as a threat to their freedom. If they were doing it today, they would have, I believe, happily authorized AR class weapons. That said, support weapons (MGs, mortars, artillery, armor, etc) would have been stored in centralized armories that required federal orders to open and the weapons in civilian hands would have been subject to regulation and training along the lines of the Militia Acts of 1792 & the Regulations for the order and discipline of the troops of the United States : to which is added, an appendix, containing the United States militia act, passed in Congress, May, 1792 printed in 1794 by Baron (Von) Steuben. archive.org

Now modern equivalents would be different but the acts and this manual show the detail to which the militia member was supposed to be trained in order to have that military grade long arm. That’s what most of these 2nd amendment nutjobs forget.
