My friend is downplaying this whole thing. I showed him the satellite loop then walked outside and pointed to the clouds from the outer bands of this thing. But then again, in 2004, he brought all the contents from his freezer to my house because he lost power. I’ll guess that 50% of people in Florida aren’t prepared for a hurricane. Up here I’ll bet it’s more like 75%.

I’ve been remarking to friends here that you can tell the difference between the new folks and the old-timers. The new folks freak out at the first mention of hurricanes, clear out the stores, and horde gasoline like it’s molten gold.

The old-timers don’t freak out because they’ve usually got a reserve in their pantry “just in case” and don’t freak out until the forecasters know with certainty that the hurricane’s coming this way.
