Having lived in Japan I can tell you why Chevrolets are not popular in Japan.

Because GM doesn’t make cars that Japanese want to buy.

It’s not hard.

But that sort of talking point resonates deeply enough in America (and with auto workers, too, not just wingnuts) that the a known part of the Pan-Pacific Partnership trade agreement the Obama administration is working on mandates legal changes in Japan to promote more importation of American cars.
