Well, it’s either a foreshock or it’s not. So far, the biggest quakes we’ve has since I’ve been here (Loma Prieta, Northridge) came without foreshocks.

So, there’s that.

Perhaps it’s the nature of the faults? Foreshocks happen at subduction zones, right? Whereas most of California is a network of strike-slip fault lines, which tend to *slip* without warning, yes?

I’m not a geologist.
