re: #205 Pingemi

I think it is silly to contend that Fox in General and Beck in particular is only popular in the old confederacy.

I’m in Massachusetts and in the room I’m in right now 3 like him 3 hate him one is a kid and one can take him or leave him (me).

As I recall we spent an awful lot of blood and treasure to keep the south I’ll have to go with Ben Franklin via the movie/play 1776 on this one:

Either learn how to live with them or give up and go home.

It took me a lot of years to recognize and get over my own bigotry against southerners, but I’ve come to the conclusion that the basic “I’m better than you” bigotry against southerners is no different that the Jim Crow’s south’s opinion of blacks and other groups at the time.

It applies to the whole nation “The Southern Strategy.” It’s just a term that is common in usage with specific meaning and application. Having lived in the north I’ve experienced racism first hand for being Italian and Spanish. Nothing too harsh. When we started going camping “down south” we thought the people were friendly and charming. It’s a generic term with real world applications but should not be use to advance anti-southern bigotry.

That’s why I made the PC pun. It does have some bigoted connotations against southerners. It’s probably important to put it in context with what you describe.
