And there are places that are crying out for highways to be demolished and built as street-level boulevards.
It’s amazing to think that NYC dodged a bullet with Westway; the West Side is now far more valuable and accessible than it was when the elevated roadway was there.
There was a group in Louisville trying to “86” I-64 along the downtown riverfront, saying that E-W traffic could be diverted onto the Watterson Expressway I-264 and Snyder Freeway I-265. They wanted to reclaim the right-of-way for non-transport use.
The idea didn’t catch on.
