The same is probably true for Social Security. I will just say that there have been claims that SS is about to go bankrupt for many decades. My father-in-law told people he didn’t think it would be there for him. It was (back in the ’80s.) I have a nephew whose father didn’t think it would be there for him (he unfortunately passed away but it was there for my nephew’s mother in the 2000s.) And he (in his 40s) doesn’t think he’ll get it. I’m pretty sure he will.
We’ll have to tweak it a bit, but I think it will be there.
Maybe it will still be there, but as I do my retirement planning (as one of the younger Lizards), I’m not counting on it.
I’ll happily take it as bonus money and reduce the amount I have to pull out of my investments, meaning they can last longer, but nowhere do I plan on having an income of $x from SS.
