Trump, the media, and right wingers spent years talking down Obama’s economy and economic policies, claiming they were socialist, they were destroying the economy, etc.

Trump gets the same numbers (same kind of context - headlines, ledes), and the tone of the Times is that things are going awesome.

Had the Times given Obama that level of credit, he would have been able to accomplish even more. Instead, he was left defending rather than taking the offensive. The Times and others were pushing a false proposition then, and now they’re reaping the rewards.
