That’s why I have much side-eye for people like Rick Wilson, Ana Navarro, or Jennifer Rubin.

They won’t admit “we were wrong and we want to fix that.” They think Trump is an aberration, because conservatism can’t fail, it can only be failed (sounds like a religion to me).

In religious terms, they think of Trump as a false prophet. They will not accept responsibility for their actions.

for many people, politics is learned the same way as religion…

- All religion is second hand, or more hands removed, information. Everything you think you know about your religion was taught to you by someone else.

How did they learn it to teach it to you?

You heard nothing and saw nothing yourself. It’s just what other people maybe saw and mostly just what they say that other people before them heard or saw or told them.

Even if you personally witnessed a “miracle”. Unless you critically evaluate and proved it then you don’t know there’s not a “normal” scientific explanation or you were fooled by someone…hoaxed.

It’s almost all appeal to apparent authority. And not even that good authority.

Generation upon generation of interpretations of a questionable and multiple times translated, edited, and reorganized book. Those interpretations and translations themselves were argued about and compromised and evolved over time.

- Most politics is the same way. Most people don’t “know” much. They heard or were told or read a web site, heard part of a speech or other questionable source…

And so it’s all second or more hands, skewed, interpreted, and selectively so. They do not research or do critical thinking or analysis. Just second hand say-so.

It all becomes a meaningless cult like following.

The thought process is the problem, not just the gullibility Due to the fundamental lack of desire to learn and know.

- There is no cure for this.
