Cambria went GOP much later. I think Bush carried it in 2004 and it’s been redder since. Funnily that was the first election none of my family lived there. My Grand Aunt and Uncle died in 2001. Grandmas still got cousins there tho and Grabdpas got a niece. And I’ve got tons of distant cousins too on my Dad’s side too.

My farther’s side of the family is from Cambria County as well.

Not sure what the local economy is based on anymore with the major reduction in the steel industry (Johnstown) and the associated coal production in the surrounding area. If I recall correctly the county demographics is that it’s one of those 95% white areas and if there is any minority concentration it’s probably around Johnstown.

That the area is going redder is an indication that their history regarding how the know nothings treated the immigrants there has been forgotten. Which is unfortunate.
