At the risk of getting into the middle of a religious argument, it’s worth pointing out that the Northern Ireland conflict was based in part on religion. Yes, I know it’s not the entire story, but I think it’s a very valid example of one christian group attempting to impose their religion on another group of people.

um… uh… no, not really.

Religion in that particular conflict is really just a proxy for ethnic/nationalist arguments about whether those six counties should rightfully be part of the UK or Eire. There’s a few hundred years’ worth of background why most of the people on one side are Catholic and most of the people on the other side are Protestant, but religion itself isn’t what they’re disputing.
