My mother is the oldest person in my family at 76. She works at O’Hare six days a week as a musician.

I am the second-oldest person at 56. No one in my family could remember a male living as long as I have (that’s comforting).

Women live a very long time. I went to my last great-great grandmother’s funeral in 1978 on emergency leave from the Navy, my Polish great-grandmother’s and grandmother’s in 1984, and my other great grandmother on emergency leave in 1993. My maternal grandmother died in 2005.

Every day I am alive I am apparently breaking the family record for longest-lived male.
