TBH from the outside looking in, I was shocked how rapidly they embraced Trump as one of their own. I thought there’d be that residing mistrust we saw with McCain and Romney but then again he won and I’m sure had they won, they’d embrace them too.

Yup. The lapdogs always fall into line to embrace the winner. If you remember, the evangelicals actually sincerely doubted Trump for a moment - just a moment - revolving around the claims which almost caused the GOP to abandon him. But their faith in him was restored when he righted the ship, and rewarded when he won.
