When I went to grade school, SK, my grade school was named Armstrong. Neil as you know wasn’t much for publicity. And you know what, I get that completely, that’s how I would probably do if I had iconic fame like that since I am a shy person but there was a nearby school named Aldrin. Buzz visited his namesake when some of the people I went to Middle and High School with were there. I mean we did feel we had some bragging rights in her little rivalry since Neil was the first man on the moon but Buzz is the iconic one. He enjoys every bit of the fame that came to him that day nearly 50 years ago and he wants to share his ironic status with the world and I don’t blame him. Eventually we will have no one who was on the moon with us still and our memories of Buzz will help preserve the Apollo story for future generations. It really was even if it was a byproduct of the greater arms race between the US and the Soviets a great accomplishment for not only our country but humanity as a whole. Just to think that there were millions of people who saw the birth of flight and then saw Neil, Buzz, and the others on the moon. I don’t know if we’ll ever see something that dramatic again.

If you watch First Man, you can see that dynamic play out when they were getting ready. I think they partially explain it in the movie (he had a lot of friends die, and a daughter die as well), but it’s just a difference in their personalities.
