About that jobs report: Delta no doubt had an impact, but I’m thinking there were significantly fewer new jobs posted because many employers have had a lot of jobs open for a while that they haven’t been able to fill.

I swear, EVERY store, hotel, restaurant, gas station and casino (I live in a gambling town) I’ve been to lately has “We’re Hiring!” signs plastered all over the place.

If you can’t get people for the jobs you currently have listed, why open more listings?

The upside is that 194k is not a terrible number, and we’ve added five million jobs so far this year. Its a simple fact that with a raging pandemic, people are going to hunker down a bit, and that will reduce economic activity. Vaccinated people have good sense, and they don’t want to get even a mild case of covid.
