Which is what makes all the screams of “DO SOMETHING” so fucking pointless, since the very forces that caused this fiasco are the ones being suggested. Speed up/streamline the inspection process for other shipments? That’s like catnip to lawyers looking to sue anybody and everybody for injury/wrongful death. Same thing applies to trying to loosen regulations regarding imported shipments of infant formula. Unless they’re seriously suggesting that the federal government step in and take over the manufacture and distribution of infant formula, there’s not a lot that can be done that doesn’t run a massive risk of only compounding the factors that lead to the shortage in the first place.
