President Lincoln WAS in fact “guilty” of the acts complained of, and of hanging about 50 Native Americans in Minnesota more as an example to the Confederacy that he meant business. These acts were taken under the US Constitution in order to preserve the Union under the inherent Powers given to a Commander-In-Chief in wartime. The Constitution, as we have been told, does not represent a suicide pact. The Union prevailed - the rest - good, bad and indifferent is history. That is all.
