re: #227 allegro

Ew, I remember those nasty things. As a kid in Enid OK in the 50s, there was no fresh fish available outside of muddy ol’ catfish if you caught it yourself. Whenever a little friend would invite me over to dinner on Friday it was very VERY important to know before accepting if the family was Catholic. If they were they would invariably serve those horrid frozen fish thingies.

Thanks to that stuff I really thought I hated fish and wouldn’t eat it in any form until my 20s when, in Houston, I found out what fish really tasted like. Can’t get enough of FRESH fish now.

My mother-in-law used to buy flounder and then bake it to within an inch of its life. Zedushka could smell the fishy fishy fish smell halfway down the block and then have to think up excuses why he couldn’t come to the dinner table. He contemplated running away from home.

He will not eat fish (except for tuna and gefilte fish) to this day.

Tonight I am making broiled salmon, and as usual he won’t even taste it.
