He’s still acting like Trump being defeated will lift some kind of spell on the elected right. His years of hardwork can’t be ignored imo but aren’t everything. We’re in a new era that is so much different than the one Biden entered politics in.

I think the calculation that Biden is working from is that once Trump is defeated he will be excommunicated. We’ve talked about how Limbaugh and Hannity and the rest will suddenly start talking about how they are liberated from Trump and that he was never a real conservative and that he was a Democrat most of his life and that we shouldn’t be surprised that a Democrat-lite couldn’t govern based on true conservative values and yada yada yada.

The idea is similar to how it was hard to find former Nazis in Germany in 1955, it’ll be hard to find Trump supporters in Washington in 2021. The odds of that are much better if the Democrats will big in down ballot races in 2020.

The problem is that Trump isn’t the cause, he’s just the end result of a GOP that’s become older, whiter, more isolated, and stewed in grievance for a decade and a half. How we deal with that, as a society, is a much more pressing issue. And Biden is the least equipped to deal with it in the Democratic field (I’m not sure anyone is well equipped to deal with it)
