Imagine…if all the sane NRA members quit(even though their overall membership is miniscule on a national scale), we’d see Republicans diving for the cameras to be first to show their new gun control bills off.

Actually, I’m suspicious of the claimed membership numbers already. There is no legal requirement to have the rolls audited, and there’s been some evidence that “lifetime” membership continues even into the afterlife. Add the unknown number of honorary memberships and the associate memberships that continue as long as the primary still exists. Oh, and apparently “inactive” gets counted for several years as well.

I’m basing all that on personal and family experience, by the way. Call it anecdote for now, but there have been articles that report similar events.

Bottom line, I have this suspicion that the true membership numbers are a lot smaller than people think, and the main leverage comes from it being yet another front for Monied Peoples’ Influence.
