I was in trial once and asked if the witness had ever testified differently than she was testifying today. She said no. I played the tape where she testified completely differently. I asked her again if she had testified differently. She said no again. It wasn’t a lawyer trick. It was a very obvious lie. I have never really understood it. People can really believe a lie that they’ve told themselves even when you show it to them on videotape.
