Oh, they still want tough on drugs…just on the drugs that “those people” are using. Like how cocaine use in the 70s and 80s was an open secret among white people, but the moment the “crack epidemic” started, we had to start the “war on drugs.”

Minor correction: Expand/reboot the “war on drugs.” Nixon launched it in 1971, the same year he declared War on Cancer, which cancer of course continues to win. But yes, crack was redefined for maximum black male incarceration.
