It’s early in the thread but I took too long reading the other one to try and catch up.

I’m back from our trip to see the eclipse. None of my photos match wheatdog’s so I’m not even going to try but seeing totality was one of the most amazing experiences I’ve ever had when it comes to natural beauty and wonder. There is a whole world of difference between a partial and a total eclipse that I didn’t appreciate. The changes in the light in the 30 seconds before. The beauty of the corona which the pictures try to do justice but just can’t quite capture. Watching the light flood back into the world. The twilight sky during it. Taking off the eclipse glasses after the last sliver disappeared for that first glimpse of the corona in the deep twilight blue, with the black center.

I still don’t really have words for it.

The 11 hours in the car yesterday afterwards to get back home was absolutely worth it. (We got incredibly lucky on the traffic and only had 2-3 spots of slowdown, lasting at best a half an hour total.)

Time to mark 2024 on my calendar.
