They may be counting on the base’s amnesia - that by the time 2020 rolls around, they’ll have forgotten about Trump, or at the very least, disavowed him as an aberration, like they did with Dubya.

Dubya actually did things to create their bad will though. What can Trump actually do to alienate the GOP base? I don’t know and tbh I don’t think Rupert or Mitch do either.
