Biden takes the oath and fires them. Career types serve as acting until Biden appointees are confirmed. Same as happened in 2017 and 2009, respectively.

Other way around. They serve at the pleasure of the president, so the new president has to ask them to stay on or they’re done.

Does anyone know if any of this is part of the job description or those norms/traditions Republicans are so fond to tossing to the side when it suits them?
