Yes. Exactly. Except we also see methane hydrates in locations apart from oil fields. I’m into Google on the chemistry as best I can, but it seems the H in the water provides a bond, and the temperatures do the ice formation.

They called them “ice plugs” in that article, but I’m not sure they were talking about actual ice, I took it to mean very cold (and therefore thick and slow moving) oil. Maybe I’m wrong. I wish the Roi were here so he could tell me what they mean by “ice plugs”.
