It never made any sense to me either, and my parents are way homophobic. But I grew up in San Francisco and I knew some gay men— like one librarian, and my grandmother’s hairdresser. And they were just normal adults, and they were both very nice.

That’s what’s winning this, as much as any sort of political and legal strategy. Gay people are living openly and they’re nothing scary, they’re just people, their sexuality doesn’t matter, so kids today are growing up just not giving a shit.

It’s a lovely thing.

Your parents were homophobic and lived in San Fran? How does that work out? From that perspective, they couldn’t have chosen a worse place to live!
